Music Camps
|
This year marked the first year of Joyful Sounds Piano Camps! We had 2 levels of Camp, 1-A and 1-B. The 1-A Camp was attended by 6 new beginners, all were brand new to music. In the piano and music theory portions, we learned about highs and lows, loud and soft sounds, and black key groups. We also found the musical alphabet on the piano and learned many music symbols. In the music appreciation portion, we learned about three composers (Mozart, Beethoven, and Sousa). We also talked about the history of music from prehistoric man through the origins of classical music and the piano. We also had group listening and rhythm times, with each student having a chance at different instruments. The sleigh bells and the guiro were the class favorites! In projects and crafts, we also made our own shakers, flashcards, and hand maps.
In camp 1-B, we had two students. This camp is geared to our Music for Little Mozarts students. This series is for students ages 4 - 6, and focuses on a well-rounded piano student, with singing, rhythm and listening included. Each day started with the "Hello Song!" and group singing. We reviewed concepts from the past year and played games that incorporated all of our music symbols. We focused on ear training and sight-reading throughout the day. We also had Peer Recitals everyday, where we learned about performance and audience etiquette. We also had practice and computer stations in the music lab area.
In both camps, Joyful Sounds Points were earned for each activity completed. We had some amazing point totals in the 350 range. At the end of the week, students were able to turn in their points for prizes. The favorites were a fishing game, play dough, and coloring books. Each student ended up with 2 or more prizes and a beautiful certificate to commemorate the completion of their first Joyful Sounds Piano Camp.

Incentives and Rewards
|
Joyful Sounds Music Studio hopes to encourage students to improve through the "Joyful Points" program in which students earn credits each week for attending lessons, practicing on their free time, and finishing books. These credits can then be turned in each month for small prizes and toys. It is our hope that students who feel that practicing is cumbersome, may grow to appreciate it's benefits through reward and encouragement.

Cancellations & Make-up Lessons
|
Cancellations must be done a week prior to the beginning of the camp. Tuition is due when the camp begins. Partial refunds may be available if canceling an individual day, as long as Joyful Sounds Music Studio is contacted the evening prior to the next day's camp. Failure to attend a daily camp meeting without proper and timely notification will result in forfeit for that day's fee.
